Mariano Navone v Learner Tien Head to Head
Navone and Tien have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Navone Coming off a Solid Clay Court Swing
Following his Australian Open Swing campaign, Mariano Navone featured in a singles match in the Davis Cup before transferring his attention to the South American clay court competitions.
Navone featured in all three of them and finished with a 4-3 record at them, reaching the quarterfinals at Buenos Aires and the second round in Rio and Santiago.
On his Indian Wells Open debut now, Navone will have to turn things around drastically though given his preference for clay. Over the years, and at whichever level you could look at, Navone hasn’t won more than four matches in any one year outside of clay.
And Navone is also going to be coming up against a player who has shown drastic improvement all season, making it that much tougher for him.

Tien, the Toast of the Tennis World
Learner Tien looks to be a quick learner. Just 19 years of age, Tien has gone from being ranked 452nd on the ATP charts at the start of the 2024 season to breaking into the top 100 this.
And after making it to the quarterfinal of the Mexican Open in the week leading up to the Indian Wells Masters, Tien has entered the top 70 of the rankings.
It’s not just about the rankings though. Tien has got all the attention this season thanks to the opponents he has already defeated.
He overcame Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open in a five-setter and then routed Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-4 in Acapulco. Some of his other victims include Cameron Norrie and Corentin Moutet.
Can he continue the same form at this Masters event?
