Griekspoor Wins a Tussle against Kecmanovic
At 1/1, Tallon Griekspoor was just about the second-favourite going up against Miomir Kecmanovic in his opener here.
And the match also looked to be headed his opponent’s way when Kecmanovic scraped through to winning the first set in a tie-breaker.
Griekspoor, who was entering this tournament on the back of a semifinal appearance in Dubai and a 7-5 win-loss record, fought back to win the next two 6-4, 6-3 and sealed his second round berth against someone he finds very difficult to surmount.
His first round encounter lasted two hours and 18 minutes and saw Griekspoor face three break-points and save every single one of them. In turn he broke Kecmanovic’s serve thrice.
