The second round action in the men’s draw at the 2025 Miami Open will be played on Friday, March 21 as Jiri Lehecka, Sebastian Korda and Alex Michelsen will take to court. Get the best predictions and tips for the day from ATP Miami Open 2025.
Jiri Lehecka v Gael Monfils
In what could turn out to be one of the matches of the day at the Miami Masters today, the world number 27 Jiri Lehecka will need to douse the fighting prowess of the 38-year-old Gael Monfils.
While Leheka had a first round bye, Monfils was pushed to three sets by Fabian Marozsan in his opening round encounter. And that was in line with how Monfils’ season has gone so far.
He has already grabbed an ATP title, winning the Auckland Open earlier this year but what has been quite commendable has been his continuing form.
Sure, there was a first round exit in Dubai but Monfils came back to grab a third round spot at the Indian Wells Masters before he went down fighting against Grigor Dimitrov.
Not that Lehecka hasn’t done much of note – he also has a title at Brisbane, made the fourth round at the Australian Open and was the semifinal at the Qatar Open.
Where Lehecka has struggled is in more recent times, losing three in a row coming into this one. And that’s where Monfis could look to exploit any chinks that the likes of Jack Draper, Ugo Humbert and Cameron Norrie might have found in those three defeats.
Lehecka v Monfils Tip: Monfils to win: 6/5
Sebastian Korda v Eliot Spizzirri
World number 25 Sebastian Korda has a solid record in Miami, having made the quarterfinal here on his debut in 2021 and then having made the third round in 2022 and 2024. And the American will now have the chance to emulate his previous two showings when he takes on fellow American Eliot Spizzirri.
Spizzirri is currently ranked 134th in the world – his career-best ranking too – and is coming off his first tour win of the season. To give you a perspective of how inexperienced he is at this level, Spizzirri had won just one match previous at the highest level.
He was a 4/6 favourite against Billy Harris in the first round and was on court for two hours and 18 minutes to record that victory.
Where he will look to take advantage against Korda is the latter’s underwhelming season after having made the final in Adelaide in what was his first tournament of the year. Since that result, Korda has played five and won just once.
Korda vs Spizzirri Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4
Alex Michelsen v Camilo Ugo Carabelli
World number 33 Alex Michelsen will have a great chance to better his previous year’s Miami Open record of having made the second round when he takes on the clay court specialist Camilo Ugo Carabelli.
Michelsen will need to be a tad wary of his fitness though having retired from his third round match at the Indian Wells Masters two weeks ago. He had suffered a stomach bug before that encounter, forcing his withdrawal but the hope is that two weeks is long enough time for him to have recovered from the issue.
The American will hold all the other aces though given his overall record for the season is a solid 11-7 and his opponent’s first round over Brandon Holt was his first in a hardcourt competition for the year.
Before that, Ugo Carabelli had featured at the Australian Open and lost in the first round before flying to South America to appear in clay-court competitions on the Challenger and ATP main tour.
This seems like a straightforward enough a result for Michelsen.
Michelsen v Ugo Carabelli Tip: Michelsen to win in straight sets: 4/5
