The quarterfinal action at the 2025 ATP Munich Open continues on Friday, April 18 with Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton and Francisco Cerundolo taking to court. You can get the best predictions and tips for the day from this tournament today.
Francisco Cerundolo v David Goffin
This will be the first meeting between the world number 22 Francisco Cerundolo and 52nd-ranked David Goffin.
Clay and Cerundolo have always got along well but this season, it’s gotten even better with the Argentine entering this quarterfinal on the back of a 11-4 record on this surface for the year.
This includes successive wins in the first two rounds of this tournament with some ease. Cerundolo dropped a mere two games in his rout of Jan-Lennard Struff and then was a 6-3, 6-2 victor over Alexander Shevchenko in the second round.
He now faces Goffin who began the season with five successive losses, and failed to make the main draw of the Monte-Carlo Masters last week.
Goffin has had his troubles all season but has won a couple of rounds here, including a shock three-set win over Mariano Navone after he had lost the first 6-0.
Still, we expect Cerundolo to come through with some ease here.
Cerundolo v Goffin Tip: Cerundolo to win in straight sets: 3/5
Ben Shelton v Luciano Darderi
World number 15 Ben Shelton will be taking on the 47th-ranked Luciano Darderi for the first time in his career when they face off in the quarterfinals in Munich.
Following his first round defeat at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Shelton looks like he has turned things around on clay with successive victories here. He defeated Borna Gojo in a hard-fought three-setter before clinching a straight-set, albeit an edgy win over Botic van de Zandschulp.
Things will get tougher here though as he takes on Darderi, who is on a seven-match winning streak on clay. The Italian won the Marrakech Open two weeks ago and while he has had some tough outings here against Christopher O’Connell and Miomir Kecmanovic, Darderi has continued to shine.
Which is why it comes as no surprise that despite being ranked more than 30 places behind Shelton, Darderi starts off a favourite here. Backing him to win too.
Darderi v Shelton Tip: Darderi to win: 4/6
Alexander Zverev v Tallon Griekspoor
Having faced off eight times before this, Zverev leads their head to head 6-2 with their only previous meeting on clay having come at the French Open last year. Griekspoor did defeat Zverev in their last meeting which came in the second round of the Indian Wells Masters earlier this.
Zverev has had a struggle for form all season, having failed to make it past winning back to back matches since reaching the Australian Open final. This will be his chance to register a third in a row as he takes on a player he has defeated multiple times in the past.
Griekspoor, however, 5-2 on clay for the season and 16-8 overall, and on a bit of an ascent when it comes to his form. Straight-set wins over Learner Tien and Yannick Hanfmann would have given him a lot of confidence and while he enters this match at 27/10, we think he could give Zverev a bit of a run for his money.
Zverev v Griekspoor Tip: Games Handicap +4.5: 4/9
