Alycia Parks v Maya Joint Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the WTA 125 circuit in a tournament in Kozerki last year and Parks had won that final in three sets.
Auckland Semifinalist Parks Hoping to Continue Good Run
Alycia Parks did not have enough ranking points at the start of the season to qualify directly for the Australian Open which meant she was forced to feature in the qualifiers.
Unfortunately for the American, despite starting out a 1/8 favourite to ease past Mirjam Bjorklund in the opening qualifying round, she was sent packing in straight sets.
This was even more surprising on the back of what had happened in Parks’ tournament opener in Auckland. Parks had made the semifinal there with wins over Amanda Anisimova, Greet Minnen and Katie Volynets before going down to Naomi Osaka.
Can the now 68th-ranked Parks shrug off that shock and continue with her run from Auckland?
Qualifier Joint at Her Career-Best
It’s been the kind of start to the season that Maya Joint would be absolutely thrilled with. And it’s sort of a continuation of how things went last year for the Aussie.
Joint, who had kick-started the 2024 season ranked 738th in the world, improved by more than 600 places thanks to her solid performances last year – it included two ITF titles too.
And she has continued in he same vein in 2025 when she made the second round at the Brisbane International before racing off to victories over Olga Danilovic, Magda Linette and Sofia Kenin in Hobart to enter the semifinals.
While she lost to Elise Mertens there and was then sent packing from the Australian Open opener by Jessica Pegula, Joint has done well here in Singapore by making it through the qualifiers.
Can she now test a player ranked higher than her? The bookmakers seem to suggest so.
Parks v Joint Prediction
Interestingly, Joint starts off a minor favourite here at 17/20 with Parks at 19/20 to clinch this. We could see a bit of a battle but backing Joint’s form to help her edge this contest.
