Ekaterina Alexandrova v Petra Martic Head to Head
There has been one meeting between these two players at the highest level and another on the ITF circuit and Martic had won them both. They had come in 2016 and 2019.
Alexandrova Coasts to Win over Sasnovich
Ekterina Alexandrova was 1-3 on win-loss this year coming into this tournament having lost to Ons Jabeur in Brisbane, Emma Navarro in Adelaide and then Emma Raducanu at the Australian Open.
She had an opening round bye here, giving her over two weeks to think through what she could do differently to get her season back on track.
And based on how she went about her business in her second round match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich it looked like she had found a solution.
Alexandrova was on court for an hour and 21 minutes as she dismantled Sasnovich with six aces and four breaks of serves. While the Russian lost her serve once in the match – it came after she had already broken Sasnovich – that was the last time her opponent came close to running her close.
She will now have a chance to make it through to the semifinals as she faces an opponent who has fallen to nearly 100 places behind her.

Martic Finally Finding Momentum, Shock Wins
For the third match in a row in this tournament, Petra Martic has upset the bookmaker’s favourite. It had started in her second qualifier against Zeynep Sonmez before she overcame Eva Lys in the first round of this tournament despite starting out a 6/4 underdog.
In the second round, things were even more difficult for Martic, who was 2/1 going in against an in-form Elina Avanesyan.
Nearly three hours later, Martic had done the unthinkable, winning 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 to make it to the quarterfinals – her first since the 2024 Auckland Open, more than a year ago.
It was an error-filled encounter though what with Martic facing 21 break-points and getting broken six times. Avanesyan was broken seven times in turn, with that extra break of serve coming in the 11th game of the final set.
Martic served it out after that.
Alexandrova v Martic Prediction
Martic, a former world number 14, who has fallen to 125th, has shown she won’t be going out in a hurry. But against the experience of Alexandrova, things will be equally difficult for her and while we have seen other, equally quality players go down to Martic, we will be backing Martic here.
Alexandrova v Martic Tips
- Alexandrova to win: 4/9
- Over 21.5 games in the match: 10/11
