Peyton Stearns v Lucia Bronzetti Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2024 Rabat Open and while Stearns won it in the end, it took her a while before she clinched the final set 7-5.
Stearns Struggles Past Gracheva
Peyton Stearns was a 2/5 favourite heading into her opening round match against Varvara Gracheva but given how things had gone for her throughout the season it came as no surprise she was pushed into a third set.
Before this match, Stearns had played six matches in 2025 and four of them had been three-setters, including the previous three in a row. Rather interestingly, there was a tie-breaker in each of them, totalling to five such tie-breakers for Stearns in the season.
Which is why, if anything, it was a surprise that this match did not see any tie-breakers, with Stearns winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 in a match lasting nearly two hours.
This was just the second time this season that Stearns had won a first round match. She will now hope to make it successive main draw victories for the first time for the year.

Bronzetti Ends Halep’s Career
Simona Halep had entered her home tournament as a wildcard and there were a lot of expectations of her. While she wasn’t quite a favourite going into the encounter, Lucia Bronzetti was tipped to be only marginally ahead.
Instead it turned out to be a rout.
Bronzetti won 6-1, 6-1 in a match that lasted about an hour following which Halep announced her retirement from the sport.
Everything went Bronzetti’s way in the encounter, with the Italian player earning five break-points and winning each one of them. In turn she was down a break-point once in the match and easily saved it.
Rather interestingly, this was just Bronzetti’s second win of the season – and coincidentally the first one had also come against a former Grand Slam winner in the form of Victoria Azarenka whom she defeated at the Australian Open.
