Leylah Fernandez v Greet Minnen Head to Head
Fernandez and Minnen have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Fernandez Coming off Abu Dhabi Quarterfinals
Leylah Fernandez will be reasonably satisfied with the start to her Middle East tennis swing after defeating Moyuka Uchijima and Lulu Sun in straight sets to make it to the quarterfinals of the WTA Abu Dhabi last week.
She would have been gunning for more though but fell to the 23/20 underdog Ashlyn Krueger in that match, leaving her with a 5-4 record for the season.
To be fair to Fernandez though, two of those defeats have come at the hands of Cori Gauff – including one at the United Cup and another in the third round of the Australian Open.
In fact, after her 1-1 result at the United Cup and a first round exit in Brisbane, Fernandez has made the third round at both her next two – the Australian Open and Abu Dhabi Open.

Minnen Surprises Zarazua in Qualifiers
Forced to come through the qualifiers to enter the main draw, Greet Minnen eased past Jule Niemeier in the first of those qualifying rounds before edging past Renata Zarazua in a three-setter.
This makes it the fourth main draw appearance for the season for the 87th-ranked player after having gotten a direct entry at the Auckland Open and Australian Open and having needed the qualifiers to make it to the Hobart International.
Interestingly, Minnen had needed qualifier wins last season as well to enter the main draw here before she defeated Tatjana Maria in her opener.
She has already overcome Anna-Lena Friedsam and Viktoriya Tomova in tournament main draws this year but can she up the ante and do that to someone ranked 60 players behind her? Sure sounds like a task.
Fernandez v Minnen Prediction
Fernandez should have no major worries here and while Minnen might put up a fight in one of the sets we think it could be to no avail.
Fernandez v Minnen Tips
- Fernandez to win: 1/3
- Fernandez to win in straight sets: 5/6
