Jessica Pegula v Arantxa Rus Head to Head
There has been only one previous meeting at the highest level and that came in Strasbourg in 2021. Rus had won that in straight sets.
Before that they had also faced off once on the ITF circuit and another time in the qualifiers of Miami Open in 2019. It was 1-1 there.
Pegula’s Form Tapering off?
Jessica Pegula had kick-started her season with an appearance at the Adelaide International where she made the final before eventually losing to Madison Keys.
Still, she would have thought she could build on that start when she took to court for the Australian Open.
The American won a couple of rounds too but in the third, she was shocked by Olga Danilovic. And that was followed by another couple of wins in Doha before Ekaterina Alexandrova ended her run this time.
And when Pegula took to court in Dubai the previous week, all she managed was a second round win following an opening bye. In the third, Linda Noskova ended her journey rather quickly.
Over these four tournaments that Pegula has featured in this season, her form has slowly showed signs of wearing off and she will need a big performance here to go into the Indian Wells Open with some confidence.

Rus in Absolutely No Rhythm
Things have continued to go from bad to worse for Arantxa Rus who has won just one match all season to go with her six losses.
And even that win came in the qualifiers of the Hobart International against Stacey Fung – a player who has never been better than 222nd-ranked in the world.
Rus lost the second qualifier there to Nuria Parrizas-Diaz and was then sent packing by Olga Danilovic, Sorana Cirstea, Viktorija Golubic and Moyuka Uchijima in her next four matches.
While Rus has put up a fight in a couple of those encounters, her quality has been way off and when you are facing a top-five player, you could be in for some trouble.
Pegula v Rus Prediction
Pegula might not be in the best of forms but this should be a piece of cake for her with a straight-set win expected for her.
Pegula v Rus Tips
- Pegula to win in straight sets: 1/4
