Madison Keys v Anastasia Potapova Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players with both winning one apiece.
Keys took the lead with a victory at the 2019 Australian Open before Potapova levelled things out in Dubai in 2021.
Keys Returns after Australian Open Triumph
Madison Keys grabbed her first ever Grand Slam title, shocking the world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the Australian Open final earlier this year. It wasn’t Sabalenka alone, however, that Keys defeated in the run-up to her stunning tournament victory.
In getting to the final, Keys overcame Danielle Collins, Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina in successive matches before taking Iga Swiatek out in the semifinals.
Keys had earlier won the Adelaide International as well, making it 12 wins in a row. Unfortunately for Keys, she hasn’t been able to play since that Australian Open triumph, having had to withdraw from a couple of tournaments including the WTA Dubai because of a lingering leg injury.
It could also be a matter of resting herself before the rest of the season and focussing only on the bigger tournaments. One way or the other, Keys will bring some confidence into this but will also have to start from scratch as she becomes one of the hunted like the likes of Sabalenka, Swiatek and the rest.

Potapova Edges Out Bouzas Maniero
Anastasia Potapova was a 3/10 favourite going into her opening round encounter against Jessica Bouzas Maniero but she did not have it as easy as those odds suggested.
In a match lasting two hours and 41 minutes, Potapova was forced to come back from the loss of the first tie-breaker to win it in three. The 2024 quarterfinalist at this competition won 6-7 (5), 6-4, 7-5 to move into the second round.
Ranked 34th in the world, Potapova was broken five times in the contest including twice in the final set but showed great steel in coming back from 3-5 down to win the set and match.
This was Potapova’s 12th win of the season which includes a title at Cluj-Napoca and while one cannot compare her results to that of Keys’ brilliant wins, the Russian has also done reasonably well all season.

The bookmakers reckon Keys is a huge favourite for obvious reasons but there has been a layoff of six weeks since she last played. Potapova, on the other hand, has been doing quite well on the tour and we think she will have a good chance of upsetting the Keys applecart here.
