What Has Djokovic Done So Far This Season?

It has been a slightly underwhelming season for Novak Djokovic so far, something he would have liked to change at the Miami Masters. He did make it to the final there but lost in straight sets to Jakub Mensik.

After losing to Reilly Opelka in the quarterfinal at the Brisbane International, he overcame Carlos Alcaraz on his way to making it to the semifinals at the Australian Open. Unfortunately for Djokovic, an injury during his match against Alexander Zverev there forced him to retire from his match.

Djokovic came back in Doha and lost to Matteo Berrettini in his opener and then fell to Botic van de Zandschulp in the second round in Indian Wells Masters as well – making it three successive losses for him for the first time in 2017.

He then lost to Alejandro Tabilo in the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters following a first round bye and then went down to Matteo Arnaldi at the Madrid Masters in the second round again.

What Has Djokovic Done in His Career?

The bigger question is what has Djokovic NOT done in his career!

In 2024, when Djokovic won the men’s singles gold medal at the Paris Olympics, he had achieved almost every single feat there is to achieve other than probably a Calendar Golden Slam which was achieved by Steffi Graf in 1988 as the only such instance.

Djokovic began his career in 2003 and by 2008 he had won his maiden Grand Slam title when he lifted his first one at the Australian Open. For another three years, Djokovic did not win another major but then when he did in 2011, he did not stop winning.

Between 2011 and last year in 2024, the only two seasons in which Djokovic did not win at least one major was in 2017 and then again in 2024. There were four occasions in which he won three Grand Slam titles – in 2011, 2015 and 2023 – and went on to add the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics to his kitty.

Between all of this Djokovic also grabbed seven, year-ending, ATP Finals tournament wins, managed to be the number one for over 400 weeks, and has 40 Masters 1000 titles under his belt.
