Alex de Minaur v David Goffin Head to Head
There have been six previous meetings between these two players including one as recently as last month in Rotterdam. De Minaur has won all six.
de Minaur Hoping to Get Back to Excellence
Alex de Minaur has lost two matches in a row and by itself that’s not a big deal. Players have these phases of great form and sometimes, at the end of a mini-phase like that, fatigue plays a part in forcing a couple of underwhelming performances from even the best of these players.
Something similar might have happened to de Minaur when he went down to Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinal of the Qatar Open and then to Marin Cilic in the first round in Dubai.
Because before those losses, de Minaur had registered 13 wins from 15 matches and those two times he had lost, the matches had been against Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
De Minaur now returns to the courts in a tournament where he had made the fourth round last season and will be up against a player who has rarely troubled him. No surprises that the Aussie will be full of confidence coming into this one.

Goffin Surprise for Sonego
David Goffin’s poor form combined with the fact that he was up against the Australian Open quarterfinalist Lorenzo Sonego in his opener here meant that the Belgian was starting out as a slight underdog.
Unfortunately for Sonego, Goffin came out all guns blazing and in an hour and 43 minutes had found himself a 6-4, 7-5 win over his Italian opponent.
In windy conditions that troubled a lot of the players, Goffin faced five break-points and was broken every single time but did well to get on top of the Sonego serve on seven occasions.
Goffin trailed 0-3 and then 2-4 in the first set before winning the next four games in a row. In the second, he was up a break on three separate occasions, getting broken every time before sealing off the fourth break in the 11th game.
He served it out to clinch the victory, just his third of the season.
de Minaur v Goffin Predictions
De Minaur should have no trouble in getting past Goffin and a straight-set win looks par for the course.
de Minaur v Goffin Tips
- de Minaur to win in straight sets: 4/6
