Francisco Cerundolo is one of the few seeded players in this tournament who enters this tournament on the back of having featured in all the three clay court events that have been played this season.
After getting knocked out of the Australian Open in the third round, the Argentine played in the Buenos Aires Open where he made the final before taking part in Rio and Santiago.
He would have had a week to adapt between clay and hardcourt but the good news for Cerundolo is the surface here could act a little slower than most other hardcourt surfaces around the world.

McDonald in a Shock Win over Fokina
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has been in some excellent form and taking on Mackenzie McDonald in the first round here, he was a 9/20 favourite to win the match.
When McDonald lost the first set 2-6 in just 30 minutes, the writing seemed to be on the wall. McDonald had won just one main draw match at this level this year and it looked like he would have had to wait till Miami to eke out another.
The tide turned in the second set though after Fokina had broken McDonald in the very first game. McDonald broke right back and then added a second break of serve to give him the confidence he needed, going on to win the set.
With the balance having shifted in his favour, McDonald broke Fokina two more times in the final set to seal the deal.
