Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard v Tallon Griekspoor Head to Head
They have never faced off before this.
Mpetshi Perricard Benefits from Marozsan Injury
Following a first round bye, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard earned himself a place in the third round thanks to Fabian Marozsan’s retirement from the encounter.
Mpetshi Perricard was leading by a set after winning the first 6-4 before Marozsan called it quits because of what looked like an ankle injury. He looked to have jarred his ankle on court on one of the points and was unable to go after the balls after that.
This will come as a bit of a relief for Mpetshi Perricard who had won just two matches since his semifinal appearance at the Brisbane International.
Playing in his first ever edition of the Indian Wells Masters, Mpetshi Perricard had entered this year on the back of two titles last season – at Lyon and Basel. Can he make it to the second week of this competition on his debut?

Griekspoor Stuns Zverev
Tallon Griekspoor had come into his second round match against the world number two and top-seeded Alexander Zverev with a 0-5 win-loss record. This included four defeats to the German in 2024 itself.
It was no surprise that the Australian Open finalist Zverev had gone in as a huge favourite and after winning the first set, he looked to be on his way to sealing his place in the third round.
Griekspoor wasn’t done though. He broke early and while he lost his serve twice to give Zverev a chance to serve for the match, he came back to win the second set in a tie-breaker.
In the decider, Griekspoor missed out on five match-points on his own serve before clinching it off his sixth, in another tie-breaker. He won 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4).
This will be Griekspoor’s third successive appearance in the third round and he will be hunting for his maiden place in the fourth round here.
