Jessica Pegula v Xinyu Wang Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players, at the 2024 Wimbledon and 2024 Wuhan Open and rather interestingly, Wang has won both.
Pegula Sends Linette Packing
Jessica Pegula had come into this tournament on the back of a title win at Austin, her first of the season. She had an opening round bye and was drawn to face a tricky opponent in the form of Magda Linette in the second.
An hour and 16 minutes later, Pegula had come away an easy winning, defeating the Polish number three 6-4, 6-2.
Both players struggled to hold on to their serves though with Pegula dropping her serve twice in the first set. That took them to 3-3 in the opening set before the American broke free.
A break in the seventh game proved to be the decisive one and that was followed by two more in the second set to finish off an easy victory.
That took Pegula to 14-4 for the season and she will now be a gun favourite to make it her 15th win over an opponent she has never beaten before.

Wang Stuns Ostapenko
Xinyu Wang was a 17/10 underdog going up against the WTA Doha runner-up Jelena Ostapenko, having entered this tournament on the back of a rather overwhelming 3-6 win-loss record.
That Wang managed to pull off a win and in straight sets was one of the biggest shocks of the second round on the day.
The Chinese player, who has fallen to 42nd in the world from her career-best of 32nd, slammed seven aces and was aided by Ostapenko’s poor serving to win 6-4, 6-4.
Only 49% of Ostapenko’s first serve got in and Wang won 48% of her Ostapenko’s second serve points which proved to be a huge factor.
Can Wang now make it to the fourth round here for the first time?
Pegula v Wang Predictions
