Iga Swiatek v Mirra Andreeva Head to Head
Swiatek and Andreeva have faced off twice before this and both have won one match apiece.
The first of these meetings came at the 2024 Cincinnati Open where Swiatek won a hard-fought match in three sets. Andreeva made it 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 drubbing of Swiatek in Dubai earlier this year.
Swiatek Avenges Olympics Loss
Defending champion Iga Swiatek will get a chance to make it her third title at the Indian Wells Open after she overcame Zheng Qinwen 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
In doing so, she reversed her defeat at the hands of Qinwen at the last year’s Olympics where her Chinese opponent had gone on to win the gold medal.
Swiatek had entered the match on the back of three superlative performances in which she had dropped just two games apiece. This time around, her serving did not rise to those levels as she got broken twice in the encounter but overcame Zheng’s serve on five occasions.
That didn’t matter too much though with Swiatek having already surged way ahead by then in both sets.
Rather interestingly, Swiatek hasn’t yet reached a singles final this year and standing between her and that goal is a player who has been in superlative touch this year.

Andreeva Sends Svitolina Packing
Mirra Andreeva continued her dominating run in the Indian Wells Open this year with a straight-set win over Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals. This was her fourth successive straight-set victory too.
Svitolina did put up some fight in the first set with Andreeva unable to break her service till the very end.
It was in the 11th game that Andreeva earned her first break-point. Svitolina saved that, and the second one too but Andreeva broke through off the third before serving it out.
The two traded breaks to get to 3-3 in the second set before Andreeva got the better of Svitolina’s serve twice to win it 7-5, 6-3.
This follows victories over Varvara Gracheva, Clara Tauson and Elena Rybakina for Andreeva in this tournament which means she has now won 10 matches in a row and is 17-3 on win-loss for the season.

This could turn out to be a ripper of a contest with Swiatek starting out a 3/5 favourite. Expect a high-quality contest which could be decided by very little and while it may or may not go into the third set, it might see a longish encounter.
