Sebastian Korda v Gael Monfils Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the Indian Wells Masters earlier this month in which Monfils had stormed ahead in two tie-breakers to make it to the third round.
Korda Stuns Tsitsipas
Sebastian Korda had gone into his third round match as a 13/10 underdog against a highly talented but rather inconsistent Stefanos Tsitsipas. A fighting opening set ensued but once Korda had grabbed that in a tie-breaker, he was able to find himself a space in which he operated with oodles of confidence against the Greek number one.
In doing so, Korda registered just his fifth win of the season to go with four defeats – he had also defeated Eliot Spizzirri in round two following a first round bye – which in its own way, explains the American’s inconsistencies too.
He had earlier in the season made the final of the Adelaide International but before the start of the Miami Masters, won just one of the following five matches. That included that defeat at the hands of Monfils in his Indian Wells opener too.
Korda now has a chance to avenge that defeat and win three matches in a row at the tour level for the first time since his semifinal appearance at the Montreal Masters last year. Monfils won’t be a pushover though.
Monfils Continues to Prove Mettle with Munar Win
For the third match in a row in Miami, Gael Monfils did not have it easy. And for the third successive time, Monfils came through unscathed, winning it in three sets and marching into the fourth round of a competition he last made that far in 2016.
As we have often spoken in this pages, this is a second wind for Monfils’ career. He is 38 and showing no signs of fatigue or fitness concerns and his record in 2025 tells us that he could be in for a long haul.
Sure, defeating top 10 players might still be a bridge too far for Monfils but he does pack a punch when it comes to putting up a fight. We saw that in his his 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Fabian Marozsan in the first round here.
We saw it again when Monfils overcame Jiri Lehecka in the final set tie-breaker, 10-8 in round two.
And now in the third round, Monfils won 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (1) against Jaume Minar.
He might start out a 13/10 underdog in this one but it’s difficult to not consider him for a match win here considering the kind of form the two players are in.
Korda v Monfils Predictions
Monfils at 13/10 against a player who has a 5-4 win-loss record? We would love to grab those odds given Monfils enters this encounter with a title under his belt and a 14 wins to a mere four losses in 2025 – in short, he has been in some great form here.
