Jasmine Paolini v Magda Linette Head to Head
There have been three matches between these two players before this with Linette leading 2-1.
Linette’s wins came at the 2023 WTA Birmingham and 2024 China Open while Paolini’s solitary victory came at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Paolini Stuns Osaka
Jasmine Paolini had gone into her third round match against Naomi Osaka as a 13/10 underdog. When the world number seven lost the first set, it looked like it was headed in that very direction but Paolini showed there’s more to her than being a one-year wonder.
In the end, Paolini came through 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to enter the quarterfinal of this competition for the first time in her career, having made her exit from the third round last year in what had been her best showing.
Incidentally, Paolini was 6/5 in her previous round against Ons Jabeur but was aided by her opponent’s fitness concerns and subsequent retirement in that encounter.
Paolini is now 11-5 on win-loss for the season and does start off a favourite against the former world number 19, Magda Linette.
Linette Shocks Gauff
In one thought that Paolini’s win over Osaka was a surprising enough result, Magda Linette topped that with a straight-set defeat of the world number three Coco Gauff.
Gauff would later go on to admit that it hasn’t been the best few weeks for her but it was still due credit to Linette to send the American packing despite her own form being a bit up and down this year.
Linette won 6-4, 6-4 to make it four straight-set victories in a row, having earlier also overcome Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Linda Fruhvirtova without dropping a set.
What makes this an even more fascinating result was that it gave Linette her first set of four wins in a row since the Prague Open in July last year.
And given what she has done against Paolini in the past, Linette will know she has a good chance in this one.
Paolini v Linette Predictions
First things first and as we look at the odds (Paolini is a 7/11 favourite), we think there’s that definite edge that a Linette win here has. We say this because there’s not much to choose between the two as far as their form for the season or for this tournament goes and add that to fact that Linette has beaten Paolini twice including once in a hardcourt match, we think 23/20 are great odds to go with.
