Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz advanced to the quarterfinals while Alexander Zverev’s fourth round clash was postponed because of rain in the men’s section of the 2025 Miami Open.
The Miami rains caused a change in schedule but there was still enough time for seven of the eight planned fourth round matches to be completed.
Only Zverev’s encounter against Arthur Fils was postponed to Wednesday while Tomas Machac’s withdrawal because of illness meant that Jakub Mensik was able to make it to the last eight stage without having to lift a racquet.
Djokovic’s form hasn’t been the best this season but against Lorenzo Musetti he showed some spark from the past as he raced away to a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The six-time Miami Masters title winner lost his serve in his very first game to concede a 0-2 lead but from that point onward there was no looking back. He won nine games in a row before closing the match out soon after that.
What that means is he will now take on American player Sebastian Korda in his quarterfinal. Korda was put to test by Gael Monfils before coming through in three sets.
Also advancing to the quarterfinals was Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, who did not waste too much in getting past Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-2.
USA’s Taylor Fritz kept the local interest alive with a straight-set win over lucky loser Adam Walton while Matteo Berrettini pulled off a surprise win against Alex de Minaur.
