Top Three Predictions from WTA Charleston 2025 for Tuesday, April 1: Keys, Collins & Sakkari in Action

First & second round action in the women's Charleston Open continues on Tuesday

The WTA Charleston Open 2025 continues on Tuesday, April 1 with its remaining first round and a few of the second round matches. Madison Keys, Danielle Collins and Maria Sakkari will be some of those in action and you can get the best predictions and tips for the day from Charleston Open 2025 below.

Madison Keys v Caroline Dolehide

On paper this could be one of the more one-sided matches of the day what with the world number five Madison Keys not only starting out on the back of an Australian Open title win but also going up against a player who has never broken into the top 40 in her career.

Caroline Dolehide has also played and lost twice to Keys in her career, including once at the 2018 French Open.

Keys has a sterling record on clay too. Take the last season for instance and Keys won a title at Strasbourg, made the semifinals at the Madrid Open and entered the third round at Roland Garros to end the year with a 13-4 record on clay.

On the other hand, Dolehide is coming off a straightforward opening round win over Elisabetta Cocciaretto, defeating her 6-4, 6-1 to reach the second round. That, however, might not be enough for her to cause an upset but it could help her try and push Keys who hasn’t played on clay this season.

Keys v Dolehide Tip: Over 18.5 games in the match: 4/6

Danielle Collins v Robin Montgomery

World number 22 Danielle Collins has never faced off against fellow American and 105th-ranked Robin Montgomery before this as she sets out to defend the title she had won in 2024.

Collins hasn’t had the best of starts to this season with a 5-4 win-loss record under her belt so far but one must remember it’s also a season she wasn’t expected to play in after having announced her retirement by the end of 2024.

Which is probably also why Montgomery might give herself a bit of a chance here, despite having never been in the top 100 of the rankings and never played in the main draw here. Montgomery, who was 11/10 to win her first round match against Viktoriya Tomova, did so for the loss of a mere four games and that will add to her confidence.

The 20-year-old will enter this match knowing Collins might be at her vulnerable best at the most and if she can reduce her own unforced errors, there is very chance she would have a chance.

Collins v Montgomery Tip: Montgomery to win a set – Yes: 11/10

Maria Sakkari v Marina Stakusic

It’s a battle between the 64th-ranked Maria Sakkari and the world number 126 Marina Stakusic, two players who have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Sakkari has a good record in Charleston in the past, having made the quarterfinal here in 2019 and then being a semifinalist last year. The trouble for the Greek player is her overall form has just tapered off and match wins have been few and far between.

In fact, in the whole of this season, Sakkari has featured in nine tournaments and in not one of them has managed successive wins. Her overall main draw record for the year reads an appalling 5-10, something she might not have expected as a 32nd-ranked entering this year. As a result her rank has fallen to 64th.

Sakkari now faces a player who hasn’t played a lot of clay court tennis. In fact Stakusic has never won a main draw match at this level on clay.

That being said, Stakusic is no mug with the racquet on this surface either, having had an overall 22-18 record on clay when one counts matches at every level. Given Sakkari’s poor form we won’t be surprised to see a lot bigger tussle than those odds of 1/5 for her win suggest.

Sakkari v Stakusic Tip: Stakusic to win a set – Yes: 9/5

Other Charleston Open 2025 Predictions of the Day

  • Heather Watson v Iryna Shymanovich: Shymanovich to win: 4/5
  • Lauren Davis v Jamie Loeb: Davis to win in three sets: 7/2
  • Shuai Zhang v Lucia Bronzetti: Bronzetti to win in straight sets: 5/6
  • Louisa Chirico v Erika Andreeva: Andreeva to win: 3/5
  • Olivia Gadecki v Hailey Baptiste: Baptiste to win: 3/10
