Top Three Predictions from WTA Charleston 2025 for Wednesday, April 2: Navarro, Bencic & Zheng in Action

Second round action in the women's Charleston Open continues on Wednesday

The WTA Charleston Open 2025 continues on Wednesday, April 2 with its remaining second round matches. Emma Navarro, Belinda Bencic and Qinwen Zheng will be some of those in action and you can get the best predictions and tips for the day from Charleston Open 2025 below.

Emma Navarro v Hailey Baptiste

World number 11 Emma Navarro might not have played her fellow American opponent Hailey Baptiste at this level before this but the two have faced off three times on the ITF circuit. Navarro leads 2-1 on head to head on that circuit, having last lost to her in 2018.

Navarro, who had broken into the top 10 quite recently, has seen her form dipped a tad and she has slipped down to 11th in the world. She would have been expected to do better than what she did at the Sunshine Masters, losing two of the three matches there, after having won the Merida Open title.

On clay too, Navarro has done well in her career, having made the final of a WTA 125 tournament in Paris last year and then reached the fourth round at the French Open in 2024.

Baptiste came away with a stunning win in the first round here, easing past Olivia Gadecki 6-2, 6-4 following her second round appearance at the Indian Wells Open and third round in Miami.

Against a player who has been a top-10 recently though, Baptiste might find the going a lot tougher.

Navarro v Baptiste Tip: Navarro to win in straight sets: 5/6

Qinwen Zheng v Maria Sakkari

World number eight Qinwen Zheng returns to court as she takes on the 64th-ranked Maria Sakkari for a place in the third round. Interestingly, in three previous meetings, all of which came in hardcourt competitions, Sakkari won two times, including once at the 2022 Australian Open.

Things have changed more recently with Zheng having jumped up the rankings charts and showing the world she knows her way around clay as she won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics last year. Sakkari, on the other hand, has struggled to regain some of her form.

So much so that Sakkari had come into this tournament with just five wins from nine previous tournaments she had played this season. A straight-set win over Marina Stakusic in the first round here was her sixth but it’s quite something defeating a 126th-ranked player and quite another coming up against a top-10 player.

A top-10 player who looks to have shrugged off her fitness concerns from the start of the season to reach the quarterfinals at both, Indian Wells Open and Miami Open.

Zheng v Sakkari Tip: Zheng to win in straight sets: 10/11

Belinda Bencic v Sofia Kenin

This could turn out into an exciting battle between two players ranked in their 40s, and both of whom have looked at 2025 to try and make a comeback to their best.

Sofia Kenin, ranked 44th in the world, is coming off a straight-set win over Bernarda Pera in the first round. More vitally, she is now 11-8 on win-loss for the season and has gradually come into her own.

Ranked 81st at the start of the season, the former Australian Open winner has improved 37 places to get close to the top 40 again. Belinda Bencic has done a lot better.

She returned to the circuit after her maternity leave and had begun the season at 489th. Today she is 41st, with a title win in Abu Dhabi, fourth round at the Australian Open and a quarterfinal appearance at the Indian Wells Open.

Bencic has also won this title back in 2022 and then made the final in 2023, which should give her a lot of confidence coming into her first match on clay this year.

Bencic v Kenin Tip: Bencic to win in straight sets: 7/5
