Top Three Predictions from WTA Charleston 2025 for Thursday, April 3 Feat. Anisimova, Alexandrova & Navarro

Third round action in the women's Charleston Open continues on Thursday

The WTA Charleston Open 2025 continues on Thursday, April 3 with its third round matches. Emma Navarro, Amanda Anisimova and Ekaterina Alexandrova will be some of those in action and you can get the best predictions and tips for the day from Charleston Open 2025 below.

Amanda Anisimova v Yulia Putintseva

World number 16 Amanda Anisimova will hope to build on her excellent form for the season when she takes on the 23rd-ranked Yulia Putintseva on Thursday. This will be their fourth meeting with Anisimova having won twice including their only previous clay court match that came at this very competition in 2022.

Anisimova had an opening round bye before she took down Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets. That victory followed her WTA Doha victory earlier this season following which made the fourth round at the Miami Open.

On the other hand, Putintseva wasn’t expected to face too many problems in her opener against the 176th-ranked Shuai Zhang but was taken to a tie-breaker in the first set. It was only when her confidence returned on winning that, did Putintseva managed to take control of the encounter.

Putintseva has had a decent clay record in her career with two of her three titles having come on this surface but she has faced some form issues this season. Before that second round win against Zhang, Putintseva had won just seven of her 15 matches this season and was on a four-match losing streak.

Expect Anisimova to take advantage of that here.

Anisimova v Putintseva Tip: Anisimova to win: 2/5

Ekaterina Alexandrova v Diana Shnaider

In this battle between two Russians, the 14th-ranked Diana Shnaider starts off as a 7/10 favourite against the world number 26 Ekaterina Alexandrova.

The ground reality is that while Shnaider is the better-ranked player and does well on clay, she has a mere 8-8 record for the season and lost in the first round of five tournaments. On the other hand, Alexandrova has already won a title this season.

Where Shnaider scores over her opponent is the fact that she is as comfortable on clay as she is on other surfaces and has already won a title at this level of this surface – to go with a WTA 125 tournament win in Paris last year.

Having routed Polina Kudermetova in the second round will give Shnaider a lot of confidence too but it’s not too different for Alexandrova who crushed Ann Li’s hopes to get here. Expect a tough battle that goes right down to the wire.

Alexandrova v Shnaider Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5

Emma Navarro v Ashlyn Krueger

In this all-American battle, the world number Emma Navarro will face 34th-ranked Ashlyn Krueger for a place in the quarterfinals. They have never faced off before this at this level but did meet on the ITF circuit in 2023 and Navarro had won that match on clay in straight sets.

Navarro broke into the top 10 following her title wins at the 2024 Hobart International and the Merida Open earlier this year. Both of these tournaments were hardcourt competitions but when you dig deeper into her overall record, Navarro has won seven of her nine ITF titles on clay.

It was her performances on clay that Navarro gave her a push towards the upper echelons of tennis. She had a first round bye here and clinched her third round spot with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Hailey Baptiste.

Krueger also had a first round bye and took some time going in her second round encounter against Katie Volynets before grabbing a straight-set victory. This was Krueger’s first win on clay at this level since her third round appearance at the Madrid Open last year.

With Krueger at her career-best ranking at the moment as well, this could make for an interesting viewing but with Navarro having a bit of an advantage.

Navarro v Krueger Tip: Navarro to win in three sets: 3/1

Other Charleston Open 2025 Predictions of the Day

  • Jessica Pegula v Ajla Tomljanovic: Pegula to win in straight sets: 6/5
  • Madison Keys v Anna Kalinskaya: Keys to win in three sets: 3/1
  • Daria Kasatkina v Sofia Kenin: Kasatkina to win: 8/11
  • Qinwen Zheng v Elise Mertens: Zheng to win in straight sets: 5/6
  • Danielle Collins v Jelena Ostapenko: Three sets in the match: 6/5
