All the third round matches at the 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters will be played on Thursday, April 10 and you can get the best predictions and tips for the day from this tournament today.
Jack Draper v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
World number six Jack Draper will be up against the the 42nd-ranked Alejandro Davidovich Fokina for a rare place in the quarterfinal of a clay court event. This will be their first meeting.
Having hit a career-high ranking of sixth thanks to his title win at the Indian Wells Open, Draper had then lost in the second round in Miami but has come back well here in Monte-Carlo. In what is his third appearance in this tournament, he has already notched up his best ever performance by getting an opening round bye and then crushing Marcos Giron 6-1, 6-1 to reach the third round.
He now takes on a player who has had mixed fortunes in this competition. Fokina was a quarterfinalist here in 2021 before making it to the final in 2022 where he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas. In the last two editions, however, Fokina has lost his openers.
This time around, Fokina has managed to carry his solid form from the rest of the season into this tournament. He edged out Ben Shelton in the first round before overcoming Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second – one is a world number 14, the other is an Argentine clay court specialist.
With that kind of form under his belt and with clay not being Draper’s most preferred surface, we could see a solid match which might go to the third.
Draper v Fokina Tip: Games Handicap Fokina +4.5: 8/15
Matteo Berrettini v Lorenzo Musetti
It might be a battle between the world number 16 Lorenzo Musetti and the 34th-ranked Matteo Berrettini but it’s no surprise that the latter is the favourite coming into this.
Berrettini, who had defeated Novak Djokovic in the first round of the ATP Doha earlier this year, continued with his giant-slaying spree as he got past Alexander Zverev in the second round. What made the victory even more special is that the Italian came came back from being a set down to overcome his second-ranked opponent.
A quarterfinalist here in 2023, Musetti, however will be no pushover. He has been taken to three sets in both his first two rounds here, coming from being a set down against Yunchaokete Bu and Jiri Lehecka but that just shows his fighting spirit on a surface he likes playing.
All in all, it makes for a close one to call with the potential for it to go to the third set.
Berrettini v Musetti Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
Daniil Medvedev v Alex de Minaur
How often do you get a battle between a world number 10 and 11 before we have even got to the quarterfinal stage. Because that’s where we are at with Daniil Medvedev and Alex de Minaur clashing in what will be their 11th match.
The previous 10 have resulted in seven wins for Medvedev but in their only match played on clay before this, de Minaur had won at the 2024 French Open in four sets.
This isn’t to say that there’s much to choose between these two players – both notoriously outside their comfort zone when it comes to playing on clay. Medvedev has already made the semifinal of this event before this but to go with his issues on clay he has also struggled throughout the season on hardcourt surfaces.
He was pushed to three sets by both Karen Khachanov and Alexandre Muller but came through in the end by outlasting his opponents.
De Minaur, who had an opening round bye, defeated Tomas Machac in another three-setter. His performance on clay in general and this tournament in particular has shown an improving trajectory – he had lost in the qualifiers in 2019, the first round in 2021, second round apiece at both 2022 and 2023 before making the quarterfinals in 2024.
Can he now stall the struggling Medvedev and deliver another early round exit for him?
Medvedev v de Minaur Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
