The second round action at the 2025 ATP Barcelona Open kick-starts on Wednesday, April 16 with Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune among those taking to court today. You can get the best predictions and tips for the day from this tournament today.

Casper Ruud v Hamad Medjedovic

World number 10 and defending champion Casper Ruud will face the 72nd-ranked and Serbian qualifier Hamad Medjedovic in the second round of this competition.

This follows a straightforward opening round victory for Ruud as he cruised past Daniel Elahi Galan after having crashed out of the Monte-Carlo Masters in the third round last week.

Known for his superlative performances on clay, Ruud will now face a tricky opponent in Medjedovic who is coming off hard-fought victory over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. That keen tussle could have gone either way but Medjedovic has continuously shown he has a great hunger to win and that helped him through there.

That followed his qualifying wins over Hugo Dellien and Gabriel Diallo, helping him make the main draw here for the first time.

We can expect Medjedovic to now put up a challenge for Ruud and even grab a set off his opponent if he’s not careful.

Ruud v Medjedovic Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 11/20

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Sebastian Korda

On paper this is an even contest between players ranked 16th and 24th in the world with both having won one previous against the other. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Sebastian Korda have never faced off on clay before this though.

Tsitsipas is a four-time finalist at this tournament and while he fell in the quarterfinals of the Monte-Carlo Masters last week, he has quite a few performances under his belt on clay to count him as one of the favourites at this tournament. He enters this match on the back of a 6-2, 6-2 drubbing of Reilly Opelka too and will start off a 1/3 favourite against Korda.

The American had his problems in his opening win over Matteo Arnaldi but came through in a comeback-from-behind win. That was his first on clay for the season following an opening round defeat to Jiri Lehecka at the Monte-Carlo Masters.

Clay isn’t quite Korda’s forte either and while he had a 5-5 win-loss record on this surface last season, he has generally struggled against the top players on clay. Expecting Tsitsipas to run through for a win here.

Tsitsipas v Korda Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 1/1

Holger Rune v Sebastian Baez

At the highest level, these two have faced off four times and both Holger Rune and Sebastian Baez have won two matches apiece. Add a Challenger meeting way back in 2021 to the fold and Baez leads 3-2.

Interestingly, four of these matches have come on clay and Rune’s only win on this surface came at the Santiago Open in 2021 in what was their first ever meeting.

Which is why it’s a bit of a surprise that Rune starts off a 4/6 favourite here – he had also earlier fallen in his opener at the Monte-Carlo Masters and did not have the most convincing of performances against Albert Ramos Vinolas in his opener here.

A title winner in Rio, a finalist at the Santiago Open and in Bucharest, Baez is one of the players to watch on clay.  He routed Damir Dzumhur in his opener here and at 6/5, looks to be an awesome option to grab a victory in this one.

Rune v Baez Tip: Baez to win: 6/5
