The second round action at the 2025 ATP Munich Open continues on Thursday, April 17 with David Goffin, Francisco Cerundolo and Ugo Humbert taking to court. You can get the best predictions and tips for the day from this tournament today.
David Goffin v Mariano Navone
World number 52 David Goffin will be up against the 70th-ranked Mariano Navone in this second round match which will also be the first time they will be facing off.
The difference in the rankings doesn’t amount to too much given the kind of form and rhythm that Goffin brings to the courts these days. Sure, he had defeated Carlos Alcaraz only last month but other than that, Goffin’s victories have been few and far between.
Even in the first round here, he struggled to scrape past Billy Harris despite being a 1/3 favourite. Against a clay court specialist like Navone, things could get even tougher.
Navone has already shocked Felix Auger-Aliassime in his opener, coming back from being a set down in what has been his sixth tournament on clay for this season. As compared to that Goffin’s opening win was his first main draw victory for the year on red dirt.
All of this points to the fact that we could be looking at a Navone win and a fairly straightforward one at that.
Goffin v Navone Tip: Navone to win in straight sets: 6/5
Francisco Cerundolo v Alexander Shevchenko
There have been three previous meetings between these two. All these matches came in 2024 and in hardcourt competitions with Francisco Cerundolo leading Alexander Shevchenko 2-1 on head to head.
On clay, things could be a lot different with Cerundolo an absolute favourite given his far superior ranking, pedigree and form. He enters this round on the back of a 6-0, 6-2 drubbing of Jan-Lennard Struff and had earlier also made the final at the Argentina Open.
On the other hand, Shevchenko did shock Flavio Cobolli in the first round here, coming back from losing the first set in a tie-breaker to win in three. However, that was only his second main draw win of the season on this surface and fourth overall in 2025.
Cerundolo should have no problems here in claiming this in two.
Cerundolo v Shevchenko Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 1/2
Ugo Humbert v Fabian Marozsan
21st-ranked Ugo Humbert has faced off against the world number 77 Fabian Marozsan on two previous occasions and won them both. These came at the 2023 Davis Cup and 2024 Paris Olympics games with Humbert not dropping more than three games in any of those sets.
Humbert had made a slow start to clay this season, arguably not one of his most preferred surfaces around. He lost his opener at the Monte-Carlo Masters to Alexei Popyrin and even here, in the first round, the Frenchman was forced to come back from being a set down to oust Nicolas Jarry in his opener.
Marozsan is 77th in the world and might not have too much form going for him right now but he has had his moments on clay. Like when he made the fourth round at the Rome Masters in 2023 at the expense of Carlos Alcaraz and Jiri Lehecka.
We could end up Marozsan running away with this one as he looks to take advantage of Humbert’s struggles on this surface.
Humbert v Marozsan Tip: Marozsan to win: 17/20
