What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the WTA Ningbo Open?
Starting out as the fifth seed in the competition, Daria Kasatkina defeated fellow Russian youngster Mirra Andreeva in the final to lift this title. Kasatkina won the final 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 to grab the win having earlier needed two three-setters to make the semifinals too.
In the semifinal, she led by a set against Paula Badosa before her opponent retired from the encounter.
This was Kasatkina’s eighth career title, having earlier also clinched the Eastbourne International tournament win in 2024.
What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the WTA Ningbo Open?
Ons Jabeur, who took a wildcard to enter this tournament and was then named the top seed in the competition, went on to win the first title on the return of Ningbo Open.
In winning the title, Jabeur did face some resistance at various points in the competition but was never in a real spot of bother. She was stretched to three sets by Vera Zvonareva in the quarterfinals and Nadia Podoroska but came through with each in the final set before routing Diana Shnaider in the final.
The top seeded Jabeur won 6-2, 6-1 against Shnaider, which rather interestingly meant that the Tunisian had won her maiden title on a hardcourt surface.
