Get all the free WTA Wuhan Open betting tips, predictions and picks along with their latest odds for the 2024 edition of the tournament, a women’s hardcourt competition played in the Asian tennis swing.

Played as a WTA Premier tournament till 2019, the Wuhan Open returned to the women’s tennis calendar in 2024 after a gap of four years. In its current avatar, it is a part of the WTA 1000 series of competitions played over a one week period.

The Wuhan Open was first played in 2014 and has seen some of the best players in the world feature in it over its very short history.

This tournament is one of the six competitions held in mainland China this season, other than the Hong Kong Open. Other than the WTA China Open, this is the only other WTA 1000 event held in East Asia and one of four such tournaments hosted in Asia.

WTA Wuhan Open 2025 Tournament Preview

We will update this section closer to the start of this competition. Here’s the preview to the 2024 edition.

Wuhan makes a return to the WTA calendar with its WTA 1000 tournament resuming this year, following a four-year gap due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last two editions of the tournament in 2018 and 2019 were won by Aryna Sabalenka, and guess what?

The Belarusian is in line to technically make it three in a row. She is the top seed, has had a terrific run this season, winning the first and last majors of the year, and is 33-7 on hard courts.

Although she suffered a quarterfinal defeat to Karolina Muchova at the China Open this week, she will be eager to put it behind her and go for her third Wuhan title next week.

Fourth seed Coco Gauff and the unseeded Muchova were preparing to play in the Beijing final at the time of writing. Both could pose a threat to Sabalenka’s chances in Wuhan, with Gauff likely to meet her in a potential semifinal and Muchova possibly in the final.

Other players with a real chance of winning the title include second seed Jessica Pegula, who will be eager to avenge her U.S. Open final defeat to Sabalenka, and local hope and fifth seed Qinwen Zheng.

Third seed Jasmine Paolini, who was a runner-up at the French Open and Wimbledon, and Wimbledon champion and seventh seed Barbora Krejcikova are also in the fray, but their recent forms have not been great, and we don’t see them going on to win the title.

Two players with a lot of potential to make deep runs are sixth seed Emma Navarro and 14th seed Paula Badosa. Both are not prime contenders to win the title, but given their superb recent form, we expect them to go deep.

Any dark horses? We have already discussed how the unseeded Muchova is not just a contender for a deep run but also one of the contenders for the title.

No. 16 seed Mirra Andreeva is another player who impressed at the China Open with a quarterfinal finish, and she could make the last eight in Wuhan as well. Also, keep an eye on Amanda Anisimova, who is capable of pulling off a few upsets early in the tournament.

What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the WTA Wuhan Open?

For the third time in a row, Aryna Sabalenka clinched the Wuhan Open by overcoming Qinwen Zheng in three, hard0fought sets in the final. Sabalenka thwarted a Qinwen fightback as she bagged the title 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

Earlier in the tournament, Sabalenka had overcome Cori Gauff after having fallen a set behind and had also needed three sets to get past Yulia Putintseva.

Second seeded Jessica Pegula lost to Xinyu Wang in the third round while Qinwen edged past the third seeded Jasmine Paolini in the last eight stage.

Interestingly, Sabalenka had earlier overcome Qinwen in the Australian Open 2024 final as well. She had also grabbed the Cincinnati Open and US Open earlier in the year.

What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the WTA Wuhan Open?

The Wuhan Open wasn’t played in 2023 having last been held in 2019 and it was Aryna Sabalenka who successfully defended her title at that tournament.

Entering the 2019 Wuhan Open as the ninth seed, Sabalenka over Alison Riske in three-setter in the final to lift the trophy. This was after Riske had toppled the fifth seeded Petra Kvitova and Sabalenka shocked the top seeded Ash Barty in their respective semifinals.

This year’s Wuhan Open also saw the future Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina get a wildcard which helped her make the quarterfinals where Sabalenka ended her run.
