What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the ATP Moselle Open?

Having made it to the tournament as a qualifier, Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi clinched his maiden ATP title by defeating Cameron Norrie in the final.

Bonzi, who had made it to two previous ATP tournament finals – at Maharashtra and Marseille Open – grabbed a straight-set win in the title-decider against the much more fancied British player Norrie. He won 7-6 (6), 6-4.

The only piece of resistance that Bonzi faced in the entire tournament came in the semifinals where Alex Michelsen pushed him to a third set. He was bagelled in the second before winning the decider 7-5 in that match.

Other than that, Bonzi recorded wins over Roberto Bautista Agut, second seeded Casper Ruud and fellow Frenchman and qualifier Quentin Halys.

What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the ATP Moselle Open?

In a rather one-sided final, Ugo Humbert dispatched Russia’s Alexander Shevchenko 6-3, 6-3 to clinch another ATP title. Humbert had come into the tournament on the back of three tournament wins at this level – at Halle, European Open and Auckland Open.

Incidentally, Humbert was the only seeded player to have made the semifinal. The top seeded Holger Rune had withdrawn just prior to the start of the competition,  as did the second seeded Alex de Minaur.

Third seeded Karen Khachanov made the quarterfinal but lost to Shevchenko while the sixth seeded Lorenzo Sonego, who was the defending champion got knocked out by Fabio Fognini.
