The men’s Hong Kong Open is one of the tournaments with which the 2025 ATP season will begin. The tournament, which was first played in 1973 and then cancelled in 2002 on the men’s circuit, resumed in 2023.

The license for the Hong Kong Open was bought over from the Pune Open which was held till 2023. By the looks of the quality of players on show we can expect quite a few of the top 20 players taking part this year too as they look to prepare for the Australian Open.

There is a tournament by the name of Hong Kong Open on the women’s circuit as well which is played in the penultimate week of the WTA season.

What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the Hong Kong Open?

Held for the first time for 22 years on the men’s circuit, it was Andrey Rublev who took top honours at the Hong Kong Open in 2024. Rublev defeated Emil Ruusuvuori 6-4, 6-4 in the final to clinch the title.

Rublev, who had a first round bye on account of being the top seed, scraped past Liam Broady in the second round and was then taken to three sets by each of his next two opponents – Arthur Fils and Juncheng Shang.

Second seeded and fellow Russian Karen Khachnov lost the first match he played, as did the fourth seeded Francisco Cerundolo while the third seeded Frances Tiafoe fell in the quarterfinals. Finalist Ruusuvuori got the better of Khachanov but did not face another seeded player in the tournament till the final.
