Madison Keys v Danielle Collins Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Keys leads 2-1 which includes wins in Strasbourg last year and Brisbane in 2020. Collins had beaten Keys at the 2018 Indian Wells Open.
Keys Stretched by Ruse
Elena-Gabriela Ruse put up a fine showing in her match against the in-form Madison Keys but in the end, it was the American who prevailed in a match that went on for three sets and lasted two hours and 31 minutes.
Things should have been a lot easier for Keys though. Especially after she took a 4-0 lead in the encounter with back to back breaks, only to surrender the advantage back.
It took her a tie-breaker to clinch the set but with Ruse having now got the confidence she herself broke Keys twice in the second set. The American had no response, in fact dropping her serve again in the third set.
Keys broke back to level things out at 3-3, missed out a couple of match-points in the 10th game before clinching it off her third in the 12th.
This was Keys’ seventh win in a row and probably the toughest among those seven.
Collins Takes Down Aiava, Aussie Crowds
Danielle Collins isn’t one to mince her words and her response the boorish Aussie crowd was spectacular. She blew sarcastic kisses to all four directions after clinching the win and proceeded to tell the broadcaster that she was happy that her salaries were paid for by the same people who disliked her on court.
All of that, however, would have fallen flat had she not won and there were times that her Aussie opponent looked to be in control of the match.
Having registered a straight-set win over Daria Snigur in the first round, Collins was taken to a tie-breaker in the first set despite having broken first. She won it but proceeded drop her serve twice in the second set to bring Aiava back into the contest.
Although she had the crowds behind her, Aiava did not have too much gas left in her tank as Collins broke her two times in the final set to clinch the win.
She had earlier gotten knocked out of the Adelaide International in the first round itself but has recovered well to notch up these two wins here.
Keys v Collins Prediction
Despite what happened in the previous round, Keys is in the kind of form that will be difficult to take down. Backing her to grab a win here.
