Clara Tauson has featured in two tournaments for the year and won seven of the eight matches she has played.
Her only defeat came against the world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the third round of the Australian Open but with a few good results, Tauson could well be able to avoid playing someone that high ranked this early in a tournament.
Before that, Tauson was able to win the Auckland Open when she overcame Sofia Kenin and Australian Open winner Madison Keys on her way to the final. There she had lost the first set before her opponent Naomi Osaka retired from the encounter.
Tauson will kick-start this competition as one of the favourites to go the distance with bookmakers offering 8/1 for her to win the title.

Kalinina Makes Brisbane Semifinal
Anhelina Kalinina featured in the Brisbane International to kick-start her 2025 and did a marvellous job of going all the way to the semifinal there.
She won against Wang Yafan for starters before stunning Diana Shnaider in the second despite being 4/1 odds to win it. Yue Yuan and Kimberly Birrell were brushed aside before Kalinina fell to Polina Kudermetova in a bit of a shock result.
Unfortunately for Kalinina, a strong performance like that didn’t prevent her from drawing Ons Jabeur in the first round at the Australian Open and she was bundled out in straight sets there.
Kalinina now takes to court on her return to this tournament having played here in 2023 when she made the second round. It could be a lot tougher this time.

On paper, Tauson has some good form going and will be an obvious favourite but we won’t be counting Kalinina out of this one. At 2/1 there’s some value for Kalinina to win this but the better option could be to go with the games market.
