Daniil Medvedev v Stan Wawrinka Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two players and it’s 2-2 on head to head. Even more interestingly, Wawrinka has won their last two matches – at the 2020 Australian Open and the 2022 Metz Open.

The last time Daniil Medvedev won a title on the ATP circuit, the year was 2023. It was the middle of the season and Medvedev had surprised everyone by lifting a trophy on clay – the Italian Open to be more precise – and suddenly everyone seemed to be talking up his chances on clay.
Not much has gone Medvedev’s way – by his own lofty standards that is – since then.
He made the final at that year’s US Open, sure, where he was beaten by Novak Djokovic in straight sets and lost two more finals on the way to the start of the 2024.
In 2024, Medvedev was a losing finalist at the Australian Open and Indian Wells Masters but slowly and steadily things started to go a little pear-shaped for him as the season wore on.
The Russian ended the year with four wins and four losses from his final eight matches and he looks to have continued with that form into 2025 as well.
He started the year with a struggling first round win over Thailand’s Kasidit Samrej before losing a five-setter to Learner Tien in the second.

Wawrinka in a Difficult Start
Stan Wawrinka doesn’t play as many tournaments these days as he used to in the first half of his career and he doesn’t win as many matches either. Last year, for instance, Wawrinka won just 12 matches all season and in only of the tournaments did he win two in a row – Stockholm Open where he made the semifinals.
It’s been no different this season with Wawrinka having played two tournaments and lost in the first round at both.
It started with a four-set loss at the hands of Lorenzo Sonego at the Australian Open and Wawrinka was then sent packing from the Montpellier Open in straight sets by Arthur Cazaux.
And while his opponent here has not been in the greatest form himself, Wawrinka will need to turn things around drastically here to notch up his first win of the season.
