Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Sofia Kenin Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players with Kenin having won both. The caveat is that these matches came in 2019 (in Wuhan and Beijing) when Kenin looked to be in the form of her life.
Pavlyuchenkova Showing Signs of Being at Her Best
When Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova fell in the first round of the Adelaide International earlier this year, there were question-marks around her return to the circuit but she seems to have proven a lot of her detractors wrong with her performance at the Australian Open.
The Russian displayed high quality tennis merged with some tenacity and grit to reach the quarterfinal at the season’s opening major.
In doing so, Pavlyuchenkova defeated Yue Yuan, Anastasia Potapova, Laura Siegemund and Donna Vekic to get to the last eight.
And even in that defeat, which came at the hands of the world number one Aryna Sabalenka, Pavlyuchenkova exhibited she is not one to be taken lightly. She took the match to the third set before Sabalenka exerted control over it.
Pavlyuchenkova hadn’t featured in this tournament last year and will hope to make a mark heading into the rest of the hardcourt swing through Asia and USA.

Kenin Forced to Feature in the Qualifiers
Sofia Kenin is playing a decent brand of tennis; it’s just that against players of some very good quality it has not been enough so far.
Like for example she made the second round at the Auckland Open but lost to Clara Tauson – who has been in top form this season and even won that tournament.
The American then reached the quarterfinal in Hobart but was taken out by Maya Joint before Cori Gauff bumped her out at the Australian Open. It was Kenin’s misfortune to be drawn against Gauff in her opener there.
Here, Kenin has made the main draw through wins against Aoi Ito and Veronika Kudermetova but now takes on an in-form Pavlyuchenkova. Can she turn things around in her favour?
Pavlyuchenkova v Kenin Prediction
Pavlyuchenkova had a good run at the Australian Open and then took a break for about a week to recharge her batteries. We can expect her to come back all guns blazing against Kenin here.
Pavlyuchenkova v Kenin Tips
- Pavlyuchenkova to win: 4/6
- Kenin to win a set – Yes: 3/5
