Ben Shelton v Aleksandar Vukic Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the Challenger circuit with Shelton winning the match in three sets. It was Shelton’s third Challenger title victory of the 2022 season and the last time he won a title on that circuit.
Shelton in Career-Best Australian Open Showing
Ben Shelton had announced himself by making it to the semifinal at the 2023 US Open. He had a few good results after that but it wasn’t till the 2025 Australian Open last month that Shelton showed the tennis world again that he is a force to reckon with.
The current world number 14 hadn’t had the best of starts to the season when he fell in the very first match of the Auckland Open, losing to Jakub Mensik in three sets.
However, he turned things around at the season’s first major when he stormed into the semifinals through a maze of tricky opponents.
He overcame Brandon Nakashima in the opener there, dropped a set apiece against Pablo Carreno Busta and Lorenzo Musetti and was leading Gael Monfils by two sets to one when his opponent retired.
That put him in the quarterfinal where he downed Lorenzo Musetti to set up a meeting with Jannik Sinner. While Sinner proved to be too good for Shelton, his overall showing would have been a morale-booster heading into the rest of the season.
He will now look to emulate his semifinal appearance from his 2024 appearance at the Dallas Open.

Vukic Coming off a Grand Slam Best
Before the start of this season, Aleksandar Vukic had featured in 17 Grand Slam competitions and never had he made past the second round. Even that had happened just twice.
At the Australian Open this year, Vukic found himself earning a spot in round three, after defeating Damir Dzumhur and causing a big upset in the second round when he surprised Sebastian Korda in round two.
He had a good chance of going one further when he played Jack Draper and egged on by his home support, he was two sets to one up before losing the final two sets in two tie-breakers.
While that defeat might have been heart-breaking, Vukic would think he can compete at the highest level.
The trouble is he comes back to the tour and in his very first match has been drawn to take on a world number 13 who has just made a Grand Slam semifinals.
