Casper Ruud v Michael Mmoh Head to Head
While they have never faced off at this level or even in the Challengers, they did take on each other in 2016 on the Futures tour with Mmoh winning it.
Ruud Made to Work by Duckworth
For a top-10 player, Casper Ruud has had his issues outside of clay and that was on display at the Australian Open where he was sent packing in the second round by Jakub Mensik.
He represented Norway in the Davis Cup after that, winning both his singles matches against Argentina’s Mariano Navone and Tomas Martin Etcheverry but his real test will come now in the lead-up to the Indian Wells and Miami Masters.
And things immediately looked a little difficult for Ruud as he took more than two hours and three sets to get past the lucky loser James Duckworth following the withdrawal of his original opponent, Marcos Giron.
Ruud faced a whopping 11 break-points on his serve and while he saved 10 of them, it spoke deeply to how badly he struggled with his serve.

Mmoh Stuns Carballes Baena
Michael Mmoh has been out of action for a while and has fallen to outside the top 400 at the moment.
He did feature in a Challenger competition late last month as his season opener but was bundled out in the second round. Post that he made it through the Dallas Open qualifiers but facing Roberto Carballes Baena in his opener, Mmoh was a 11/10 underdog in the encounter.
Carballes Baena is a much-improved hardcourt player but Mmoh would have realised he has a chance against him if he could get himself sorted on court.
That’s exactly what he did and despite losing his serve five times in the contest and needing two hours and 47 minutes, he came through 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
Things will get more difficult now that he faces a top 10 player with Mmoh aiming to get some more miles under his belt here.
Ruud v Mmoh Prediction
Ruud is 1/4 to win this and that’s the safest bet one can go with this in this encounter. An even better option would be to go with a straight-set victory for Ruud but one can also be a tad careful here given Mmoh is still an unknown quantity after returning to the courts.
Ruud v Mmoh Tips
- Ruud to win: 1/4
- Ruud to win in straight sets: 4/5
