Daria Kasatkina v Elina Avanesyan Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2023 WTA Berlin and Avanesyan had edged Kasatkina in a third set tie-breaker.
Kasatkina in Double-Bagel of Kudermetova
Things haven’t been going too well for the Kudermetovas in recent times. Only last week, Belinda Bencic had routed Veronika Kudermetova 6-0, 6-0 in an Abu Dhabi round of 16 encounter.
And a few days later, Daria Kasatkina avenged her loss to Veronika’s sister Polina at the Brisbane International by routing her 6-0, 6-0 as well.
In a match that lasted a mere 42 minutes – one of the shortest matches this season – Kasatkina lost just eight points on serve and won 13 of the 15 second serve points off Kudermetova to seal her second round berth.
This win followed a shock first round loss at Abu Dhabi last week for Kasatkina who had frittered away a one-set lead to Ashlyn Krueger.
She will now look to build on this superlative performance when she takes on the Hobart semifinalist in round two.

Avanesyan Wins a Keen Tussle with Xinyu
Elina Avanesyan has had a couple of good showings this season, having made the third round in Brisbane and the semifinal in Hobart.
While she was knocked out of the Australian Open in the very first round, she has come back well here against Xinyu Wang.
It was also deemed to be a close match between two evenly-matched players and it turned out to be a thriller.
Avanesyan was on court for a few minutes short of three hours and needed three sets, of which two were tie-breakers to find a way past Xinyu.
A string of breaks in the first set allowed Xinyu to serve for the set at 5-4 but Avanesyan found a way back and won it via a tie-breaker. Xinyu levelled things out easily in the second set but come the decider it proved to be a tooth and nail battle again.
Wang had her chances again, breaking Avanesyan twice and serving for the match at 5-4 but the Armenian kept coming back. In the tie-breaker that followed, Avanesyan clinched the win after winning three points in a row at 4-5.
Kasatkina v Avanesyan Prediction
Kasatkina looks to have far too much experience and rhythm at the moment and we think she would be able to grab this easily.
