Zheng v Jabeur Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players, at the 2022 Canadian Open and the 2023 US Open, and Zheng has won them both in straight sets.
Zheng’s Played Just Australian Open
It was a bit of a surprise that Qinwen Zheng, who was originally named in China’s United Cup squad, then opted out of the tournament in order to prepare for the Australian Open.
What has been an even bigger one is that other than her appearance at the Australian Open where Zheng bowed out in the second round to the unheralded and 23/2 underdog Laura Siegemund, she hasn’t played anything else.
Zheng will now make her first appearance since that defeat in Melbourne and as she takes court, it would be a matter of wanting to get back into rhythm against a player she has overcome in the past.
Can Zheng, who has fallen from three spots from her career-best of fifth in the world, now get back to full form? It might take some time.

Jabeur Routs Kessler
25-year-old McCartney Kessler had been made some waves when she won the Hobart International title earlier this year but her results have fizzled away over the last one month. And the latest in that line of struggles was her first round defeat to Ons Jabeur.
Jabeur is an experienced pro and while she might be some way away from being at her best, she has still shown what she is capable of all year.
A third round appearance at the Australian Open and a quarterfinal last week in Abu Dhabi meant she had come into her opener here against Kessler as a favourite.
And did she play like one.
In a match that didn’t even go up to the one-hour mark, Jabeur clinched a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kessler, sending warning signals to the out-of-rhythm Zheng.
Zheng v Jabeur Prediction
We could be in for an interesting match-up. Jabeur is yet to win a set against Zheng over two previous matches but this could be the one in which she turns things around.
Zheng v Jabeur Tips
- Over 19.5 games in the match: 4/9
- Jabeur to win a set: 1/2
- Jabeur to win: 6/5
