Victoria Azarenka v Anhelina Kalinina Head to Head
The only previous meeting between these two players came at the 2023 Adelaide International and Azarenka had won that in two tie-breakers.
Azarenka Makes Poor Start to the Season
Victoria Azarenka kick-started her season at the Brisbane International and scratched away to a win over Maya Joint in her opener there. That was on January 1.
We are now in the third week of February and Azarenka hasn’t added another win to her tally since that Joint victory.
The Belarusian player lost to Marie Bouzkova in the second round at Brisbane, was then shocked by 13/5 underdog Lucia Bronzetti at the Australian Open opener and in Doha last week, went down in straight sets to Amanda Anisimova.
This is after coming into 2025 with a solid season behind her back – she had improved slightly from being ranked 22nd at the start of 2024 to 20th by the time it ended.
Can Azarenka now turn things around as she takes to court in a tournament in which she was a finalist in 2010 but has struggled in more recent times?

Kalinina Looking at Brisbane for Inspiration
While it’s not been an outrageously poor season for Anhelina Kalinina, she would be the first to admit she would have liked to do a lot better than she has after the kind of start she got to 2025.
Kalinina had won four matches in a row in Brisbane, including one against Diana Shnaider, the world number 12, to make it to the semifinal where it was Polina Kudermetova who ended her excellent stay in the competition.
Since then, however, Kalinina has featured in four tournaments and lost in the first round in three of them.
While two of those defeats have come at the hands of Ons Jabeur and Clara Tauson, two of the best in the business outside the top 10 at the moment, Kalinina will need to start winning these matches if she wants to get close to her career-best ranking of 25th.
She did make the quarterfinals at the Cluj-Napoca Open but Aliaksandra Sasnovich ended her run there.
Kalinina will think she has a chance here against the out of colour Azarenka but can she convert that potential into something real?
Azarenka v Kalinina Prediction
Azarenka is 1/2 to win this but we believe the match is a lot more even and at 8/5, Kalinina’s winning odds seem more tempting. Expecting her to win a set at least.
Azarenka v Kalinina Tips
- Kalinina to win a set – Yes: 4/6
