Iga Swiatek v Victoria Azarenka Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two and Swiatek leads 3-1.
Azarenka had won the first time they had met, at the 2020 US Open before Swiatek defeated her in Adelaide and Rome in 2022 and in Doha last year.
Swiatek Sent Packing (by Ostapenko Again!)
For the third tournament in a row this season, Iga Swiatek has looked good throughout the competition but has just not been able to deliver the final punch.
Swiatek helped Poland make the final of the United Cup but lost to Cori Gauff there.
She then romped to the semifinal at the Australian Open, losing just 14 games in her first five matches but came up against a rampaging Madison Keys.
And then last week, Swiatek entered the semifinals of the WTA Doha where her tournament was ended by Jelena Ostapenko. That was the fifth time Swiatek had played her Latvian opponent in her career and for the fifth time in a row, Ostapenko had defeated Swiatek.
What would also bother Swiatek is the manner of her defeat, a 6-3, 6-1 scoreline that will simply not cut the ice for her. She will hope to resume on a positive note again.

Azarenka Finally Wins a Match
Victoria Azarenka’s struggles this season have made it difficult for her to win sets, let along matches.
Before coming into this tournament, Azarenka had last won a set way back on January 1 of this year when she overcame Maya Joint in her Brisbane opener.
Since then, she had featured in three matches and lost all of them in straight sets. And it wasn’t even any of the top 10 players who had outdone Azarenka – the losses had come at the hands of Marie Bouzkova, Lucia Bronzetti and Amanda Anisimova.
Here, it looked like it was going the same way against Anhelina Kalinina when Azarenka rolled over meekly in the opening set 6-2.
But credit where credit’s due as she fought back superbly, winning the second set in a tie-breaker before grabbing the match in a match lasting two hours and 55 minutes.
Unfortunately for Azarenka, the relief of winning a tussle like that could well dissipate very quickly given that she takes on the world number two next up.
Swiatek v Azarenka Prediction
While Swiatek was shocked by Ostapenko in her previous match she played in Doha, she should not have a lot of difficulties in this one and a straight-set win looks par for the course.
Swiatek v Azarenka Tips
- Swiatek to win in straight sets: 1/2
