Aryna Sabalenka v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head
In four previous meetings, both have won two apiece. Sabalenka won in their first two matches on the hardcourts of Abu Dhabi and Miami in 2021 while Kudermetova clinched her wins on grass at Berlin in both 2022 and 2023.
Sabalenka Shocked Twice in a Row
Aryna Sabalenka had made a sterling start to the season.
The world number clinched the Brisbane International title for the loss of just one set and followed that up with a stunning march to the final of the Australian Open where she was gunning for her third tournament win in a row.
Madison Keys upset Sabalenka in the title-decider, beating her in three sets much to the Belarusian player’s anguish.
And the shock continued right into the Qatar Open where the top seeded Sabalenka lost her second round match to Ekaterina Alexandrova. This was after Sabalenka had taken the first set.
Sabalenka will now look to keep those last two results behind her as she aims to better her career-best performance at this competition of having made the quarterfinals on three of the occasions.

Kudermetova Prevents Another Sabalenka-Alexandrova Meeting
Ekaterina Alexandrova has been in the form of her life and had only last week stunned Aryna Sabalenka in their second round encounter at the WTA Doha.
She was gunning for another meeting with the world number one but standing in her way was Veronika Kudermetova. And Kudermetova came back from being a set down to come up trumps against Alexandrova.
In a match that went on for two hours and 12 minutes, Kudermetova 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Down a set and a break in the second set, Kudermetova broke back twice in the second set and then once in the third set to improve her season’s record to 7-5.
Kudermetova now has the world number one across the net come the second round and things could get rather tough.

It’s difficult to see Sabalenka lose three matches in a row but Kudermetova will look to take some positives from her previous showings against the world number one. Sabalenka to win obviously but we could see Sabalenka needing to fight in one of the sets.
