Luciano Darderi v Hugo Dellien Preview
Head-to-Head: Darderi and Dellien have never faced off before this.
Luciano Darderi has had a wretched start to the season in which he has lost in the first round of each of the four tournaments he has played in. This includes the Argentina Open last week where he went down to Francisco Cerundolo in double-quick time.
Darderi will be up against a qualifier in Hugo Dellien but one who has featured in a few Challenger matches this season already.
That’s because Dellien made the semifinal of the Peracicaba Challenger and then was a losing finalist at the Rosario Challenger before making it through the qualifiers here in Rio.
Dellien has the momentum and the confidence, neither of which Darderi has and while he is a better player on paper, it would need a monumental effort from his side to win his first match of the season.
Darderi v Dellien prediction: Dellien to win: 1/1

Tomas Barrios Vera v Jaime Faria Preview
Head-to-Head: Barrios Vera and Faria will be facing off for the first time here.
Tomas Barrios Vera has had an interesting season. He kick-started 2024 with an appearance in the Australian Open qualifiers and when he did not make the main draw, he flew back to Uruguay to feature in a Challenger there on clay.
He made the final there before losing to Daniel Elahi Galan.
There was a small matter of taking on the challenge of playing for Chile in the Davis Cup then for Barrios Vera before he went to Delray Beach to play a hardcourt competition and then returned to Brazil for the qualifiers.
Barrios Vera has zigzagged around the world and will be glad to have beaten Cristian Garin and Ugo Carabelli to make the main draw where he takes on lucky loser Jaime Faria.
Faria had tried to make it through the Argentina Open as well but failed to do so in the qualifiers and it looked like the same fate had befallen on him here too when he lost in the second qualifying round.
Fortunately for Faria he has found a place as a lucky loser. Still, Barrios Vera should start a favourite here.
Barrios Vera v Faria prediction: Barrios Vera to win: 3/5
