Francisco Cerundolo v Hugo Gaston Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between these two with the first having come in Lyon last year and Gaston had win it in three sets.
Cerundolo Coming off Solid Buenos Aires Showing
While Francisco Cerundolo made a decent start to the season with a third round appearance at the Australian Open, he looked to have taken off nicely when he switched over to clay last week.
Featuring in his home competition in Buenos Aires, Cerundolo defeated Luciano Darderi and Juan Manuel Cerundolo to set up a quarterfinal meeting with Alexander Zverev.
And in a three-set thriller he took down the world number two before beating Pedro Martinez to make it to the final.
It took in-form Joao Fonseca to end Cerundolo’s run, stopping him on his tracks before he won his fourth title but there was enough on show there to suggest that Cerundolo has re-discovered some of his best.

Gaston 1-4 for the Season
Hugo Gaston has had an ordinary start to the season with his only win in four previous tournaments having come at the Australian Open. And even that was against the 228th-ranked Omar Jasika in the opener.
Other than that, Gaston had lost to Yosuke Watanuki, Yannick Hanfmann and Jiri Lehecka in the Australian Open swing before he moved over to Buenos Aires for the start of the clay court swing.
The Frenchman has a better overall record on clay but playing Federico Coria, he was blown away to 6-3, 6-2 defeat, leaving him with a lot to do to turn things around.
The 98th-ranked player now has his most difficult match of the season and unless there’s a miracle in the offing here, he could be left counting the number of games here.
Cerundolo v Gaston Prediction
Backing Cerundolo to win this in straight sets despite the obvious exhaustion of having played over the entirety of the week last and having had just a day’s gape.
Cerundolo v Gaston Tips
- Cerundolo to win in straight sets: 1/2
