Muchova Overcomes Fighting Raducanu
Emma Raducanu had her moments in her second round match but Karolina Muchova proved to be just that little better to make it to the third.
In a match that went on for two hours and seven minutes, Muchova battled an emotional opponent and a rain delay before winning 7-6 (6), 6-4 to clinch her seventh win of the season to go with four defeats.
Muchova was 2-0 up in the opening set when Raducanu broke down and had to be consoled by her opponent. The Czech then went on to grab a 4-0 lead but Raducanu broke back twice to send the set into a tie-breaker.
Here, Muchova saved a set-point before grabbing the set off her third opportunity.
Having beaten Suzan Lamens in the previous round, Muchova then broke Raducanu early in the second set, saved three break-points of her own before winning it late in the evening.

Kessler Shocks Gauff
McCartney Kessler had already won a title this season but not too many would have expected her to make the third round here. And the reasons weren’t to do with her own form but with whom she was going to face in the first two rounds of the tournament.
She was drawn to meet Amanda Anisimova in her opener here. Anisismova was coming off a title win in Doha last week and it was only due to sheer exhaustion that Anisimova just didn’t look like she was at her 100%.
And then in the second, Kessler had the world number three Cori Gauff waiting for her – an opponent who had kick-started the season with a title at the United Cup and a quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open.
Kessler proved to be too good for Gauff as well, shocking the 1/5 favourite in straight sets to set up this meeting with Muchova.
She won 6-4, 7-5 in an hour and half of tennis in which she dropped her serve just once. In turn she got the better of Gauff’s serve on three occasions.
