Matteo Berrettini v Tallon Griekspoor Head to Head
They have faced off just once before this and that came earlier this month itself with Griekspoor finding a way to get past in three sets in Rotterdam.
Berrettini Stuns Djokovic
With just one win from his previous four matches in this season, Matteo Berrettini had walked into his first round match in Doha against Novak Djokovic as a distant second favourite.
Berrettini was a 27/10 underdog before the encounter but the match did not go as planned for the bookmakers.
In fact, Djokovic was unable to break Berrettini in the first set with the Italian saving three break-points in the process. In the tie-breaker that followed, Berrettini went 3-0 up and closed it out 7-4.
If one thought that it was a matter of time before things turned around for Djokovic they were way off the mark. Instead, Berrettini drew first blood with a break in the second game and then broke again to complete the victory.
Wins like these come few and far between and Berrettini would take that as one to cherish for the matches and weeks to come.

Griekspoor Scrapes Past Struff
While Tallon Griekspoor was a straight-set winner over Jan-Lennard Struff in his opening round encounter it wasn’t before he had been forced on court for two hours and nine points and had been forced to save a set-point in the second set.
Things didn’t start too well for Griekspoor as he went a break down in the very first game of the encounter.
At 2-3 though, he broke Struff to level things out but in the absence of any further break-points, the set went into a tie-breaker.
Griekspoor managed to keep his head down and clinch it 7-5 but there was no opening up of the match in the second set. If anything things got cagier with neither player earning a break.
The second tie-breaker was even closer.
Neither player got a two-point lead in the entire tie-breaker till Struff dropped his serve at 7-8 to give the match away. This made it his fourth win of the season to go with three other losses.
