Daniil Medvedev v Zizou Bergs Head to Head
Medvedev and Bergs have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Medvedev Taken to Three Sets by Khachanov
Daniil Medvedev has been in strife with his results all season and he was going up against fellow Russian Karen Khachanov in the first round. Interestingly enough, Khachanov himself has had a struggle in 2025 and it looked it could result in a keen tussle between them for the elusive second round place.
That’s exactly what happened.
The world number six had to dig deep into his reserves, come back from a set down and finally win in a match lasting more than two and a half hours.
Medvedev hammered 10 aces and did well to get broken just once in the entire match from the seven opportunities he offered Khachanov.
That one chance was enough to help Khachanov win the first set but Medvedev dished out the same medicine back, breaking his opponent once apiece in the second and third set to claim his place in the second round.
This was also Medvedev’s fifth win of the season to go with three defeats.

Bergs Sends Bautista-Agut Out
Zizou Bergs entered this tournament having hit a career-best ranking of 58th in the world and that has been thanks to his performance at the Auckland Open – where he was the losing finalist – and the Marseille Open where he made the semifinals.
Here, Bergs had started off an 8/11 favourite in his opener against Roberto Bautista-Agut which was quite long odds given he had a 10-4 win-loss record for the season as compared to his woefully out of sorts opponent.
And Bergs lived up to that estimate, winning his opener 6-4, 7-6 (4) in nearly two hours.
It took Bergs just one break of serve late in the opening set to take the lead but in the second there were four breaks of serves shared with Bergs missing out on a chance to grab the match when he served at 5-4.
A tie-breaker followed where Bergs found a way to come through.
Medvedev v Bergs Prediction
This could turn into an exciting contest between a player who has had no form but is trying to fight it out and another who has looked the best he has ever. Medvedev might still hold the edge but we could see another match that goes into the third set.
