Thiago Monteiro v Chun-Hsin Tseng Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the Challenger circuit in 2023 with Monteiro winning in straight sets.
Monteiro Scrapes Past Diaz Acosta
It took Thiago Monteiro two hours and 41 minutes and a tie-breaker in the deciding set to overcome Facundo Diaz Acosta in his opening round match in Rio.
Monteiro, who had made the second round at each of his previous five appearances at Rio, looked to be in the danger of going out early this time around when Diaz Acosta broke him early and grabbed the opening set.
His comeback began in the second set with a break of serve in the second game before he saved a break-point on his way to levelling things out.
The third set was fought hard with just one break-point opportunity – that Monteiro frittered – coming anyone’s way. It was only in the tie-breaker that Monteiro finally got some room and found a way to get through.

Tseng Shocks Tabilo
Chun Hasin Tseng had made the main draw of this tournament with a couple of wins in the qualifiers but had gone into his opener with 5/2 odds on offer against Alejandro Tabilo.
It took Tseng only an hour and 37 minutes to nullify those odds and carve out a straight-set win over his opponent. It was his first main draw win of the season – in fact his first since he defeated Fabio Fognini in the first round of the Umag Open last year.
Tseng slammed six aces and while he dropped his serve two times, he also overcame his opponent’s serve on five occasions to find a way to get past Tabilo.
The big difference between the two players was the manner in which Tseng won 15 percentage points than his opponent on both, the first and the second serves.
Can he continue his run here?
Monteiro v Tseng Prediction
Monteiro might have been stretched in his opener but we believe he should not have a lot of problem against Tseng and a straight-set win could be expected here for the home player.
Monteiro v Tseng Tips
- Monteiro to win: 1/2
- Monteiro to win in straight sets: 6/4
