Francisco Cerundolo v Luciano Darderi Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings, both of which came on clay and both players have won one apiece.
Darderi clinched a victory in Houston last year while Cerundolo eased past him in the first round of the Argentina Open last week on his way to the final.
Cerundolo Thwarts Fighting Gaston
Following a finals appearance at the Argentina Open last week, Francisco Cerundolo did have much of a break between that match and his opening round encounter against Hugo Gaston.
And that showed up in the first set of his match as Gaston made the Argentine work hard for every single point in the contest.
Cerundolo was up a break on three occasions in the set, including when he had a chance to serve it out at 5-4 and then again at 6-5 but he was broken all three times in return.
In the tie-breaker that followed, Cerundolo then fell 3-6 behind before saving five set-points and coming back to win 11-9.
Cerundolo then took advantage of his thoroughly deflated opponent in the second set to coast to a 7-6 (9), 6-0 victory.

Darderi Finally Wins a Match
Luciano Darderi had played four main draw matches in 2025 before coming into this tournament and lost every single one of them.
Which is why, he was 10/11 odds to come through and while he did that, it was thanks to Hugo Dellien’s injury.
In fact, at one stage it looked like Dellien would run away with the encounter, taking a 4-0 lead with two breaks of serve. Darderi broke back once but Dellien had a chance to serve it out at 5-3 that he missed out.
From there on, Darderi pushed the set into a tie-breaker which he claimed but that did nothing to change Dellien’s grit who continued to push his opponent in the second set as well.
At 2-2, however, Dellien retired from the encounter, leaving Darderi a winner. He has a far tougher second round encounter.
Cerundolo v Darderi Prediction
While Darderi finally won a match for the season, it got as scratchy as it got and we think he is still some away from his best. Cerundolo holds the aces here.
