Bouzkova Returns after Some Hiatus
Marie Bouzkova looked to have made a solid start to the season when she featured in Brisbane where she won three rounds to make it to the quarterfinals. These included victories over Jelena Ostapenko and Victoria Azarenka before the eventual winner and world number one Aryna Sabalenka took her down.
Since then, however, Bouzkova has done nothing of note, losing in the first round at both, the Adelaide International and Australian Open.
What has made things worse for Bouzkova is the fact that she hasn’t played since that opening round ouster at the season’s first Grand Slam on January 12. And it looks like her foot seemed to have been the cause for concerns for Bouzkova.
Bouzkova was forced to withdraw from WTA Dubai because of this issue and enters the Indian Wells Open with the cloud of that same issue hanging over her head.
With second round appearances in this tournament over the past two years, it will be interesting to see if Bouzkova can overcome her fitness woes and grab a win.

Lamens Improving Quickly
Suzan Lamens was ranked 87th at the start of the season and around two months later she has improved to her career-best ranking of 64th, enough to earn a direct entry into this year’s Indian Wells Open.
Having won her maiden WTA title last year in Osaka, Lamens went on to make her Grand Slam debut earlier this year at the Australian Open. And there she won her opener to recover her maiden victory in a major before Belinda Bencic got the better of her.
Earlier in the season she had also got the better of Kamilla Rakhimova and Magdalena Frech to make it to the Brisbane International quarterfinals.
More recently Lamens won her first round clashes in Cluj-Napoca and Austin and all of this will hold her in a good stead when she makes her debut in Indian Wells.
