The Austrian Open tennis tournament which is played on outdoor clay court surfaces, is also known as the Kitzbuhel Open or the Austrian Open Kitzbuhel. It was first hosted way back in 1894, making it one of the oldest competitions in the world.
First played in Prague all those years ago, it then shifted to Vienna in 1954 and then saw Salzburg, Pörtschach and Graz as some of its other venues. Since 1969, it has been hosted at Kitzbuhel every year including in 2010 when it was held as a Challenger event.
With winners like Juan Martin del Potro, David Goffin, Dominic Thiem and Casper Ruud, this is a famous stop for a few of the top tennis players in the world but is still branded as an ATP 250 event.

ATP Kitzbuhel 2025 Tournament Predictions
- Matteo Berrettini’s form makes him a favourite to go long in the tournament but a lot will depend on how quickly can he recover from his title-winning run last week in Gstaad.
- Instead, Sebastian Baez could be a good shot to grab it as he looks to defend his title at the Kitzbuhel Open.
- Another Argentine in Tomas Martin Etcheverry looks good to make the semifinal.

What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the ATP Austrian Open?
In what turned out to be a brilliant change of fortunes, Matteo Berrettini won the 2024 edition of the Kitzbuhel Open as he overcame Hugo Gaston in the final, 7-5, 6-3.
What was even more brilliant from Berrettini’s perspective was that he won all his matches in straight sets and was his second successive title in two weeks. In the previous week he had clinched the Gstaad Open as well.
Berrettini had entered the tournament as an unseeded player and overcome Pavel Kotov in two tie-breakers in the first round in what turned out to be his most difficult encounter.
This was followed by another two tie-breakers against Alejandro Tabilo, one against Nicolas Moreno de Alboran and a 6-4, 6-4 win against Yannick Hanfmann in the semifinals. Finalist Gaston had earlier knocked out the defending champion Sebastian Baez in the last eight stage.
What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the ATP Austrian Open?
Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, who had entered the tournament as an unseeded player, overcame the local and wild-card entrant Dominic Thiem in the final to win the title. He already had two ATP titles in his kitty before this.
Baez won 6-3, 6-1.
The 28-man draw saw Tomas Martin Etcheverry start off as the top seed, and after a first round bye, he won successive matches to enter the quarterfinal. There he lost to fellow Argentine Baez.
In the other semifinal, Thiem scraped past the fifth seeded Laslo Djere, winning the final set tie-breaker 10-8. Second seeded Yannick Hanfmann was dumped out in the second round by Arthur Rinderknech.
