Played as an ATP 500 competition since 2015, the profile of this tournament improved drastically when Roger Federer first featured in it in 2003. Federer would go on to win the title a whopping 10 times including in 2019 as he entered Wimbledon that season as a favourite.

First played in 1993 as the Gerry Weber Open, called so for sponsorship reasons, it then changed to Noventi Open in 2019. Currently it is called the Terra Wortmann Open.

It was earlier played as an ATP 250 event before its change to ATP 500.

What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the ATP Halle Open?

Jannik Sinner, who not only started off as the top seed but also the pre-tournament favourite, lived up to all those expectations when he lifted the title at the 2024 edition of the Halle Open.

The Italian player overcame Hubert Hurkacz 7-6 (8), 7-6 (2) to win the trophy, which was his fourth of what had been an exceptional year. It was also the first time that Sinner had won a grass court competition in his career.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic for Sinner, who was forced to play a three-setter in his opener against Tallon Griekspoor, another against Fabian Marozsan in the second before Jan-Leannard Struff also pushed him into a third.

He finally overcame Zhizhen Zhang in straight sets in the semifinal before Hurkacz pushed him to two tie-breakers in the final.

Second seeded Alexander Zverev made the semifinal where he went down to Hurkacz while third and fourth seeds and Russian players Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev did not even make it past the second round.

What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the ATP Halle Open?

In what turned out to be a shock result, unseeded player Alexander Bublik lifted the trophy at the Halle Open in 2023.

This was ahead of some of the top notch players who took part in the competition in 2023 including Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Hubert Hurkacz.

Bublik stunned the seventh seeded Borna Coric in straight sets in the very first round before making his way past Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinal. Sinner was forced to retire from the encounter in the second set.

In the semifinal, Bublik overcame Zverev in straight sets before edging past Rublev in the final to clinch his maiden ATP 500 title victory.
